Torgo is a satyr who acts as the caretaker of Count Werdna's funeral home in Forest of Fear. He hobbles around with his staff and greets Mary and Leo to the funeral home. He is based upon the character from the cult movie Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Physical Description[]

Torgo's most prominent feature are his giant kneecaps, which causes his hobbling. He has black pants, which hide his goat legs. He wears a tan vest, sports a mustache and goatee, and wears a light tan straw hat. His staff sports a sculpture of a hand on top.

Characteristics[]

Torgo loves to work, but only as long as the price is right. He is insistent that he gets his pay and, in return, gives his work the extra mile, such as giving Count Werdna's funeral home a nice polish. As Werdna's right-hand satyr, he also greets guests (aka Count Werdna's victims) when they stop by, such as Mary and Leo, and helps in Count Werdna's schemes. He also follows his master throughout the forest. He eventually got a job as Dr. Henrietta William's laboratory assistant at the Bradford Rant Institute of Cosmic Kinesis before being fired. Now independently wealthy in the cruise line business, he works extra hard to give his customers unforgettable experiences, and himself unbridled amounts of cash.

Before Mustache Maniacs Film Co.[]

Torgo started out as a character in the 1966 cult film Manos: The Hands of Fate as caretaker to "The Master." He is also a member of a cult that worships, as The Master says, Manos, god of primal darkness. Just like in Forest of Fear, he greets the guests who stop by and conspires with The Master in the cult's schemes. Eventually, his hand is set aflame when he gets a bit jealous of the Master's wives, and he's last seen fleeing from the Master's place while his hand is on fire.

Later, when the film was mocked on the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000, Torgo would occasionally make appearances during the skits. He was first depicted as a pizza delivery man who delivered pizzas to Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank. Later, he descended in angel form to take TV's Frank to Heaven.

In the original film, John Reynolds plays Torgo. Mike Nelson fills the role in Mystery Science Theater 3000.

In 2012, he appeared in the Manos: The Hands of Fate videogame, which can presumably be bought in the iTunes store. The game has both iOS and Windows versions.

Trivia[]

  • In early drafts of Forest of Fear, Torgo would come out at the ending of the film and state, "The Master would not approve of that ending," referencing a popular line from Manos: The Hands of Fate.
  • Although Forest of Fear is regarded as Torgo's official debut, an early version of Torgo can be seen as a non-canonical cameo in the Lucknow scene in Johnny Thunder and the Secret of Marco Polo.
